of Post Offices
Bhubaneswar Division,
Bhubaneswar – 751 009
Sub: Problems of Business Processing Centre,
Bhubaneswar GPO
Sir,
When the Hon’ble Prime
Minister of India is dreaming for a Swachh Bharat and Digital India and our
Department is ensuring in-time and correct implementation of all such orders issued
by the Government from time to time, most regretfully, we would like to say that
we are witnessing a serious contradiction to the real sense of Swachh Bharat and Digital India in the
Business Processing Centre of Bhubaneswar GPO which is the largest profit
earning centre of India Post not only in Bhubaneswar Division but in Odisha
Circle.
Some common issues which
can be solved by just a little intervention are brought to your kind notice as
follows.
1.
As
aware, the BPC is presently functioning in a cycle stand only with a single
door and without any window. As many as 25 staff members are being suffocated
while working in a very unhealthy atmosphere without cross ventilation. We realize that due to want of space, the
centre started functioning there. But years have passed. Unfortunately, no
action has yet been taken to make the workplace healthy with required
renovation.
2.
The
BPC is equipped with old, broken and rejected furniture. The damaged table of
the Supervisor at the entrance will speak a lot
on the poor condition of the BPC
along with the outdated fixtures and fittings.
3.
The
fans are not in proper working condition and alternatively there is no A C
provision in the erstwhile cycle stand. The unhealthy condition of a hall
without windows/ACs and with 25 people gives the picture of a cell of a jail
with prisoners.
4.
Thousands
of letters/parcels/packets are being handled regularly starting from receiving,
journalizing, weighing, costing, facing, stamping, sorting, and computer data
entry and dispatching work. The hall has not been equipped with standard
furniture for performing all those activities in a planned manner. As such, heaps
of such articles on the floor in a very disarranged manner give a very ugly
picture putting several questions on Swachh Bharat mission.
5.
Out
of 4 nodes installed in the BPC, 2 are about to be condemned and thus affecting
the performances of the BPC.
6.
Most
importantly, while we are highly talking about modernization, the BPC where as
many as 25 people are working has no drinking water facility and lavatory. It
is needless to reiterate that many lady outsiders are working in the BPC.
Under the circumstances, to
make the workplace healthy and decent, we would like to suggest as follows.
a.
To
renovate the space with proper/required electrical and civil repairing works
supplying standard furniture/equipment for giving a corporate look so that the
employees can sit and work decently.
b.
To
provide required number of Air Conditioners or to make necessary arrangements
for proper ventilation to avoid suffocation.
c.
To
arrange for drinking water facilities giving necessary water connection and
installing a water cooler for 25 staff members.
d.
To
construct lavatories separately for ladies and gents in the premises.
If the working environment
of the BPC, Bhubaneswar GPO is not made employees-friendly with the above electrical/civil
works within a specific time period, then we would like to demand for immediate
shifting of the BPC to a suitable accommodation.
An early reply on the
matter is highly solicited.
With
regards.
Yours faithfully,
(
BRUHASPATI SAMAL)

Secretary
