RESERVATION IN DEPARTMENTAL EXAMINATION - Q & A in Lok Sabha

Will the Minister of PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES AND PENSIONS be pleased to state:-
 
(a) whether the Government has provided reservation to the candidates of Other Backward Classes in the departmental examination held for promotions in various departments; 

(b) if so, the details thereof; 

(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and 

(d) the steps being taken/proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard?
                                                                                ANSWER

Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions and Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office. (DR. JITENDRA SINGH)

(a): No, Madam.

(b): Does not arise in view of the reply to part (a) above. 

(c): Clause 4(A) of Article 16 of the Constitution provides reservation in promotion only for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. 


(d): There is no proposal to provide reservation in promotion to Other Backward Classes.
