The hub receives up to 2000 to 2500 parcels a day this festival season

At the Postal Department’s parcel hub at Sanganur in the city, staff members are busy morning and night, sorting out parcels for delivery within the district and even to Kerala.

Gifts that are bought online or purchased here and sent to friends and relatives in other cities have replaced greeting cards at the Post Office during the festival season.

While on a regular day the hub receives 1000 to 1200 parcels a day, during festivals it goes up to 2000 to 2500 a day, says an official of the department.

The number of parcels delivered by the department starts rising from Navarathri or just before that.

Bulk orders

There are also customers who book bulk orders, 200 to 500 pieces, on Shopping Zone. The postal department staff go to the portal’s warehouse in the city, collect the articles, bring them to the hub and despatch them.

For Amazon, the department does same day delivery within the district and there is a separate team for it at the Head Post Office here.

The number of articles handled every day is only going up as Deepavali nears, the official adds.
Parcel booking and delivery on postal holidays and Sundays is available for the festival season to bulk customers who have entered into an agreement with the department.
The Postal Department has the infrastructure to deliver the articles to rural areas in the district, though the volume handled to these areas is not much at present, the official adds.
