BENGALURU: A museum for collectors’ stamps will soon come up next to
the General Post Office, and architecture students can try their hand at
designing it.
India Post, which has recently got back the
designated plot of over 8,000 sq ft from BMRCL after the completion of
the Metro line, will go on rounds to colleges to invite entries through a
competition. “We have identified 13 to 14 colleges in the city,” says a
postal department official. “We will accept entries till the end of the
month.”
The Philately Bureau will also have a landscaped open
space, a library with reading room featuring stamp-related literature
and a coffee shop where visitors can relax. “The postal department has
only two architects for the whole of India. And we want to move away
from conventional structures, so getting students to design it will
help.”
All students pursuing B Arch under a city university
recognised by AICTE and Council of Architecture are eligible to
participate in the competition. Entries must be submitted by January 31.
Three prizes will be awarded, with a cash token of Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000
and Rs 10,000.
