The 30th All India Postal Athletics and Cycling Meet began at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the city today.
The meet was declared open by Tamil Nadu Circle Chief Postmaster GeneralCharles Lobo.
About 189 athletes and cyclists from 14 postal circles were participatingin the three-day event.
Earlier, during the inaugural ceremony, Dr Lobo accepted salute
from marching contingents of the athletes from various Postal Circles.
He also hoisted the flag of the 30th All India Athletics and Cycling Meet.
The sporting events being held today at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium
(Outdoor)were: Events for Men: 800 M, Shot Put, 100 M, Decathlon,
Long Jump, 400 M and High Jump, Pole Vault, 400 M Hurdles, Long Jump,
and 500 M. Events for Women: High Jump, 800 M, 100 M, Shot Put, and 400 M
Hurdles.
V. Sanjay of Karnataka Circle won 100 meters for men
in 10.7 seconds and Hina of Rajasthan Circle won 100 meters for women in
12.5 seconds. Mervin Alexander, Postmaster General, Chennai City
Region hoisted the flag of the Tamil Nadu Postal Sports Board.
