Students at the Philately Exhibition
organised by the Postal Department and Guntur Numismatic
and Philatelic
Society at Balaji Mandapam, in Guntur on Monday.
An exhibition of stamps- Gunturpex-2016- got under way
at the Balaji Kalyana Mandapam on the premises of Venkateswara Swamy
Temple at Brundavan Gardens here on Monday.
The
exhibition, organised by the Postal Department in association with
Guntur Numismatic and Philatelic Society, organised workshops, which
evoked enthusiastic response, with over 1,000 students visiting the
stalls. More than 6,000 stamps were displayed.
Inaugurating
the two-day exhibition, Divisional Railway Manager, Guntur, Vijay
Sharma said collection and study of stamps would enhance knowledge and
helped students master history. The DRM also released two special covers
on Guntur chillies and Undavalli caves on the occasion.
Superintendent
of Posts D. Satyanarayana presided over the meeting. Assistant
Director, India Posts, Vijayawada, Ansari, president of Sri Venkateswara
Swamy Temple Committee, Ch. Mastanaiah, were also present.
The
highlights of the exhibition include postage stamps on birds, animals,
insects, personalities, shells, roses, dinosaurs and reptiles. Scented
stamps, talking stamps (gramaphone record), steel stamps, 3D stamps are
also displayed.
In the Inter-school quiz competition
on philately held in the afternoon, KKR Gowtam Guntur bagged the first
prize, while Montessori School, Tenali, and Bashyam IIT secured second
and third prizes, respectively.
A special sales counter of the Postal Department was also opened.
