NEW DELHI: All central government employees will, under a new proposal
of the central government, have to declare whether they have two spouses
in their service book.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has decided to modernise the employees' service book to make it user-friendly, and issued a new format. As per existing norms, no employee is allowed to marry a person with a living spouse unless the central government gives them permission.
The DoPT has sought comments on the new format of the service book. If
the proposal takes effect, the service book will have a person's Aadhaar
number and three photographs — one from the time of joining, another
after completion of 18 years in service and a third taken a year ahead
of the date of retirement.
A senior DoPT official said the inclusion of Aadhaar number in the service book will help ensuring timely delivery of all pension-related benefits to employees. There are about 50 lakh central government employees working across the country.
