LOGISTIC POSTAL SERVICES

Will the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:

(a) whether logistic postal services have been started;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the cities/districts wherein the service has been introduced, State-wise;

(c) whether post offices have been equipped with information technology related facilities including ATMs;

(d) if so, the number and details thereof during the last three years and the current year, State-wise;

(e) whether the said services are proposed to be started in other post offices also; and

(f) if so, the details thereof, State-wise and the targets fixed in this regard for the current Five Year Plan?

ANSWER

THE MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

(a) Yes, Madam.

(b) Logistics Post services have been introduced by the Department w.e.f. 10.08.2004 to provide a range of integrated logistics and fulfillment services that can be tailor made to suit the requirements of the customers.

List of cities/ districts where Logistics Post services are available are given in Annexure I.

(c) As part of ‘IT Modernization Project’ of the Department, 28002 Departmental offices including post offices, mail offices and administrative offices have been computerized and networked so far on single Wide Area Network (WAN), with the Data Centre Facility at Mumbai. Department’s WAN is now the largest single-organization WAN in the country. Department is also providing Core Banking Solution (CBS), Core Insurance Solution (CIS) and ATM facility under the overall IT Modernization Project.

(d) Details are given in Annexure II.

(e) to (f) CBS and ATM facilities are being expanded in other post offices/ locations in a phased manner.
