KOCHI:
Soon you need not have to bother about packing of articles while sending
through post offices.
As
a part of embarking on a new era of business, the Postal Department has kick
started facilities for packaging of articles at their offices itself.
As
a part of this, carton for the articles will be available from the counter set
up at the postal offices. In the beginning stage, the facility will be
available at six head post offices in the district.
“The
package facility will soon be extended to almost all the major post offices.
This is also a part of adopting new business governed by e-commerce industry,”
said Central Region post master general M Venketeswarlu at a press conference
held here on Thursday.
Besides,
the department will also launch an exclusive parcel booking centre at
Kadavanthara to meet the increasing demand of the parcel business.
“This
has been started to aim at the future parcel business in the state here. Here
people can send parcels to anywhere else against a nominal fees,” Venketeswarlu
added.
He
also said that the department is all set to introduce mechanised mail sorting
system to reach the letters to the destination at the earliest. “At present,
some delays are occurring while sorting out the mails. We have formulated a
plan for sending a post and it can be sorted with the help of a machine,”
he added.
