The AIPEU, Group-C, Bhubaneswar Division organized the symposium titled “Changes and Challenges in India Post” today successfully in the Seminar Hall of the Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education , Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. The symposium was inaugurated by Dr. (Prof.) Prasanna Kumar Patsani, Hon’ble MP ( Lok Sabha ). Expressing concern over the proposed closure / merger / relocation of 9797 post offices in urban area, Dr. Patsani told that since the Department of Posts is the only organization in India symbolizing national integration, closure of post offices is a direct attack on national integration. He assured to take up the issue with the Ministry of Communication and if possible he will discuss personally with the concerned Minister to stay away from implementing such order going against the interest of the public in general. Dr. Susmit Pani, Director, DDCE, Utkal University addressing the symposium as Chief Speaker told that large scale closure / merger of post offices is not only a problem for the postal employees in particular but a problem for the whole nation in general. The issue requires national debate. The Unions / Associations should try to make it a national issue taking the help of media since the common people dependant on India Post have no idea regarding such large scale closure.
The symposium was followed by General Body Meeting the details of which will be published later on.
