Parcel boxes get a make-over:

BANGALORE: Worrying over wrapping a parcel before sending it from a post office is now a passe. The department has come out with a safe box to wrap gifts.
The boxes will be transported via Air Express service to ensure faster and efficient delivery. They will be sold and booked at the identified post offices and can be sent anywhere across India. Customers will have to do documentation on the postal box by giving details of the self and the recipient addressee.

Cost factor

For domestic posts, the rates are: Rs 125 for 1kg box, Rs 200 for 2.5kg and the large sized box of 5kg costs Rs 400. However, the rates differ for international posts, that costs Rs 1,000 for 1kg, Rs 1,500 for 2.5kg and Rs 2,500 for the 5kg box.
                The boxes will be sold and booked in identified post offices only. Every parcel will have a specific period for its delivery, similar to the air parcels. Weight of the entire parcel will include the weight of the box.
The department will scan the object sent through the box. "An X-ray screening will be done for every parcel sent though our services. Customers must not send the objects that are prohibited in the mailing list," said Vasumitra, post master general, business development and technology.

What cannot be sent

*              Anything injurious
*              Unprotected sharp instruments
*              Explosives, dangerous, filthy, noxious or deleterious substance
*              Tickets, proposals, etc., relating to unauthorized lotteries (does not include lottery organized or authorized by government)
*              Anything indecent
