The Head Post Office in Attur town achieved the distinction of having the first Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of the Department of Posts in Salem district for the benefit of the post office savings bank account holders. The Department commissioned the ATM recently.
Core Banking Solution (CBS) - FINACLE is networking all the post offices which enabled customers to operate their accounts and get account related services from any post office on CBS network regardless of where the customers maintain their accounts.
This project has brought in facilities of ATM banking, internet banking, mobile banking and phone banking to the Post Office Savings Bank customers.
As part of the Core Banking, the ATM was commissioned at Attur, a release from the Senior Superintendent of Post Office, Salem East Division, stated on Saturday.
The Department of Posts will issue ATM cards free of cost and instant ATM cards will be issued at the Post Offices.
The customers having minimum balance of Rs. 50 can apply for ATM card. They can withdraw maximum of Rs. 25,000 a day and Rs.10,000 a transaction.
Card holders can transact from any Postal Department ATM in the country.
To start with, the service will be available for six working days (Monday to Saturday) from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In due course, it will enable post office saving bank customers to make transactions 24x7 in ATMs and to transfer money from their account to any bank account, the release added.
