Special covers commemorating the renaming of 12 cities of Karnataka and the success of Mangalyaan were the top picks at ‘Karnapex,’ the philately exhibition that began here on Friday. The Karnataka Postal Circle has organised it.
Special covers priced at Rs. 10 each, and set of three books priced at Rs. 500 each (Stamps of Karnataka, Mysore Anche and Special Covers of Karnataka) were sold in no time.
Special cover on ‘Say no to child labour’ and permanent pictorial cancellation on ‘St. Mary’s Island, Malpe’ and ‘Kattale Basadi, Barkur’ will be released on Saturday.
New services
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who inaugurated the four-day exhibition here on Friday, said new services will be added to the postal network of 10,000 post offices to make the communication process efficient between the 5,700 gram panchayats and government offices.
The Postal Department, on the occasion, put up exclusive stalls to promote usage of postal system for communication. “Postcrossing is a unique way of communicating with unknown people across the world using postcards,” said Bishnu Sarangi, Postmaster General, North Karnataka. Anybody can make use of the service by registering on the department website and begin sending postcards to any country.
