Demand for providing child care leave, which is now being provided to all Central government women employees, was stressed during the 30th annual meet of LIC Working Women Subcommittee (Madurai Zone) of All India Insurance Employees Association here on Sunday.
G. Aruna, convenor of the committee, said while child care leave had been provided to all Central government employees, it was still not granted for LIC employees.
A resolution was passed at the meeting demanding provision of child care leave and special leaves for women facing menopause-related health issues.
The resolution also demanded establishment of crèches in workplaces for taking care of children.
R. Sarvamangala, joint secretary of South Zone Insurance Employees Federation, said women employees of insurance sector had come a long way and achieved a majority of their demands through their actively functioning trade unions.
She said the unions were now focussing on larger issues faced by women, including sexual harassment and safety-related problems.
Resolutions
Resolutions were also passed at the meeting urging the government to strengthen laws and effectively implement them to ensure safety of women.
The meet also demanded enactment of a legislation to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in all elected bodies.
