Shri Kapil Sibal Launchs Flat Rate Domestic Parcel Service Indipex 2011, World Philatelic Exhibition to be held from 12th February 2011.
Sh Kapil Sibal Minister for Communication & Information Technology launched flat rate domestic parcel service here today.He also announced the holding of INDIPEX 2011, World Philatelic Exhibition at Pragati Maidan New Delhi from 12th to 18th February 2011.
With the Indian economy growing at a very fast pace, the express parcel industry has been growing consistently. As a part of business strategy and with a view to restructure its parcel business, Department of Posts has launched Flat Rate Parcel (Domestic) service.
Flat Rate Parcel provides an added convenience to the customers by offering them pre-paid Flat Rate Parcel boxes. Now our Customers would not have to bother for packaging material to pack their parcels as high quality and standardized corrugated flat rate parcel boxes specially designed to ensure safe and secure transmission of the consignments will be available at the Post Offices. These boxes will be available in three weight slabs viz. 1 Kg, 2.5 Kg and 5 Kg. Flat Rate Boxes have also been given a high quality sealing tape at the inner lid. Now Parcels do not require to be in cloth wrapping/ wax sealing. Flat Rate Parcel is an air express service hence the parcels are given airlift on the same lines as Speed Post.
The Flat Rate Parcel (Domestic) tariff will be as follows:

Flat Rate Parcel boxes will be sold at Head Post Offices and other identified Computerized Post Offices. These parcels will be delivered across India including rural areas.
With this customer friendly service, Department will be able to standardize the parcel service for operational convenience along with added facility to the customer.
Department has already introduced International Flat Rate Parcel Service in the same weight categories.
India Post is also organizing INDIPEX 2011, World Philatelic Exhibition at Pragati Maidan New Delhi from 12th to 18th February 2011. The exhibition is being organised in collaboration with the Philatelic Congress of India under the auspices of the Federation Internationale de Philatelie and the Federation of Inter-Asian Philately. India first held such an exhibition in 1954 and the last one in 1997. This is the sixth time that such an exhibition is being held in India . INDIPEX 2011 will be inaugurated by Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, the President of India.
The aim of the exhibition is to promote philately and provide a forum for interaction between philatelic stakeholders viz. collectors, dealers, stamp designers and printers and postal administrations. The exhibition will showcase some of the best collection of stamps, stationery and philatelic literature from all over the world in different categories. There are 595 collectors from 70 countries who will be participating in the exhibition apart from 28 philatelic dealers
