RAJAHMUNDRY: The postal department earned `30 lakh by selling old records in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari. Furthermore, an amount of `12,639 crore has been disbursed towards wages under the NREGA scheme in the state and `1,050 crore towards various pension schemes, state chief post master general BV Sudhakar said.
Sudhakar told reporters here Saturday that steps were being taken to deliver parcels in 12 hours. “The department recently held talks with the Telangana government with regard to the selling of non-judicial stamps through post offices. We will discuss the same with the Andhra Pradesh government as well,” he said. “Under the ‘Nanyatha’ scheme, the department is tracking the status of delivery of letters and parcels using Global Position System. Under ‘Sunayasam’ scheme, the department is offering 23 varieties of services. The scheme was introduced in AP and Telangana recently. Plans are afoot to sell various seva tickets of Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam through ‘Sunayasam’ scheme,” he added.
Later, Sudhakar inaugurated a post office on the premises of Adikavi Nannaya University and participated in ‘Swachh Bharat’ programme.
Post master generals M Sampath (Vijayawada) and Sarada Sampat (Visakhapatnam), and Rajahmundry postal superintendent SMSSV Prasad were present at the function.
