NEW DELHI: Over 14,000 posts earmarked for persons with
disabilities have been lying vacant in various central government ministries,
banks and PSUs, Rajya Sabha was informed today.
The Centre has asked all concerned to carry out a special
drive to fill these vacancies, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh
said in a written reply.
As per the data received from various departments,
nationalised banks, financial institutions, central public sector undertakings,
among others, there were 14,267 vacancies identified for persons with
disabilities, he said.
These included backlog vacancies carried forward from
earlier years. "Out of these 14,267 vacancies, 2,990 vacancies identified
were in respect of Group A or equivalent posts," the minister said.
The government had issued instructions in May this year to
all concerned to take immediate necessary action for filling up of vacancies
for persons with disabilities and to launch a special recruitment drive to fill
up these vacancies by February 2016, he said.
