Nagpur: Principal district judge Pushpa Ganediwala on Thursday chaired a high-level meeting at Nayay Mandir on the security and other functional issues with the police department in an attempt to iron out the glitches hurdling the process of dispensing of justice. Apart from judicial officials, office bearers of the District Bar Association (DBA) too were present at the closed-door discussion session.
Sources said the delayed services of summons by the police department was debated in the meeting apart from the irregularity in sending FIR to the concerned magistrate. City police chief SP Yadav and other senior representatives of the city and rural police department are learnt to have voiced their crippling manpower issue in the meeting which is causing hurdles in delivering the summons.
District legal services authority secretary KD Jadhav and District government pleader Vijay Kolhe were also among those present.
According to a highly placed source, the postal department's proposal to step in to shoulder the responsibility of sending summons by post against a payment of Rs.3 was also discussed. "If judiciary approves, the postal department's proposal can be forwarded to the state police head office and also the government for consideration," he said.
Sources said that senior police officials also assured to look into the delays in sending the FIR to the concerned magistrates to ensure the bail applications can be more judiciously processed. The judicial officials also learnt to have underlined the apathy of a section of police officials to send their 'says' to the concerned court for processing of bail applications.
The uncertain appearances of the investigation officers (IO) at the court to help in the trial also took centre stage in the meeting. The judicial officials learnt to have also suggested police department depute officers at each court for meeting various purposes.
The security issues pertaining to installing of CCTV cameras and parking congestion was also highlighted. DBA president Prakash Jaiswal pointed out the misuse of parking space by the outsiders in the premises leading to regular squabbling. Apart from Jaiswal, DBA secretary Nitin Telgote too was present.
