Protesting government employees want the old pension scheme reintroduced

Demanding the scrapping of the new pension scheme, government employees staged demonstrations at three places here on Thursday.

The protesting government employees said the new pension scheme, which was in practice since April 1, 2003, should be scrapped and the old pension scheme reintroduced. A separate tribunal should be created to hear the cases pertaining to the service disputes of the teachers and the government employees.

The salary and allowance disparities that have sprung up following the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations for the Central Government employees should be rectified out for the State Government employees by constituting a committee immediately.

Instead of roping in a private health insurance firm, the State Government should create its own insurance company to take care of the health insurance policies of teachers and the government employees, the protestors said. The agitations were organised in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli and at the Collectorate. Similar agitations were also organised in various parts of Thoothukudi district.
