Shri Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for Communications
and IT has underlined the need for collaboration between different arms
of the Union Government, between State Governments and between the
Union and State Governments as regards Website/Internet based
activities. He said that only this way would transparency be arrived at
and duplication avoided. He also called for an award to be instituted
for collaboration among different government departments, Union or State
for web based/internet work. He was speaking on the occasion of Web
Ratna Awards 2012, given away here today. Shri Sibal congratulating the
awardees said that they had provided exemplary service towards
increasing the impact of the Internet on people’s lives, but also added
that problems of society cannot be solved only by individual
interventions, but through systemic changes.
The Ministers of State for Communications and IT, Shri Milind Deora and Dr. Killi Kruparani speaking on the occasion, congratulated the awardees. Also present on the occasion were Shri J Satyanarayana, Secretary Department of Electronics & Information Technology and Dr YK Sharma DG, NIC besides other senior officers of the Ministry of C&IT.
Web Ratna Awards acknowledge the exemplary initiatives in e-Governance using the medium of World Wide Web in different categories highlighting application of ICT, right from web presence to delivery of citizen services to public participation and innovation in use of technology. The Awards bring together many e-Governance Awardees and some of the finest thinkers from the field of IT, e-Governance and academic institutions.
The Awards are conferred to teams from all the constituents of the Indian Government at the Centre and State level in the following categories:
• Citizen Centric Service
• Public Participation Initiative
• Outstanding Web Content
• Innovative Use of Technology
• Comprehensive Web Presence - Ministry/Department
• Comprehensive Web Presence - State
The list of awardees can be accessed at the http://webratna.india.gov.in. The first ever "Web Ratna Awards" were presented in 2010.
A number of nominations were received for the Web Ratna Awards’12. These Awards were finalized through a three tier evaluation process. The entries were independently scrutinized using the scientific evaluation matrix devised by IIT Delhi, which was later meticulously evaluated by the Screening Committee. The shortlisted nominations were thoroughly evaluated by the Jury comprising of senior members from the Government, Academia and institutes/organizations.
