JAMSHEDPUR: The diamond jubilee celebrations of the leading constituent autonomous college of the Kolhan University
(KU), Jamshedpur Women's College (JWC), kicked off on Sunday with the
release of a special postal cover to commemorate the 60th year of
academic contribution of the college.
Chief postmaster general of Jharkhand Circle, Kaushalendra Kumar Sinha, also the chief guest on the occasion, released the postal cover at a glittering function held at the college campus amid the presence of college faculty and students. "The postal department takes pride in releasing the cover to commemorate the six decades of academic excellence that JWC remained committed to," said Sinha in his address to the audience. He said JWC is the only college in the state to have a postal cover in its name.
Present on the occasion, Jamshedpur MP Ajay Kumar applauded the faculty and students for the glorious 60 years of journey that the college completed and described the postal cover release as a historic event for the college.
"I am sure taking inspiration from today's function the present students, faculty and administration will strive to reach new heights in the academic field in the years to come," said Kumar.
The college principal, Shukla Mohanty, described the function as momentous. "The description of the memorable journey of the college is incomplete without the mention of the supporting staff (of the college) who played an important role all through the journey since its inception (in the year 1953)," said an elated Mohanty.
The year-long jubilee celebration will witness social, cultural and sporting events till January 2014, announced the principal. The postal cover release function paved the way for cultural programmes such as dance presented by a group of college girls. "We wanted to make the inaugural function of the jubilee celebrations a memorable event so we planned a group dance dedicated to the impressive journey of our institution," said a member of the dance troupe.
The postal cover release function was earlier scheduled to be held on December 3 last year, but owing to the fact that the state was in a mourning because of former Prime Minister I K Gujral's demise on November 30, it got postponed.
