Ashoknagar MDG celebrates World Post Day on 09.10.2015 organizing a workshop on soft skills and general courtesy.

As a part of National Postal Week, Ashoknagar MDG, Bhubaneswar – 751 009 celebrated “World Post Day” by organizing a Workshop for staff on soft skills and general courtesy.

The workshop was headed by Shri B Samal, Postmaster and attended by all the staff members including casual workers, MTS, Postman and P As.

At the outset, the Postmaster briefed the importance of the World Post Day and National Postal Week intimating all the activities to be undertaken on each day. The World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9th October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss capital, Berne. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969. The purpose of World Post Day is to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people’s and businesses’ everyday lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of countries.

From this day i.e. 9th October, India Post celebrates National Postal Week and some defined activities are undertaken on each day of this week. Apart from  celebrating World Post Day on 9th October, 10th 12th, 13th 14th and 15th October, 2015 have been identified as Savings Bank Day, Mail Day, Philatelic Day, PLI Day and Business Development Day.

In the workshop, the staff members were counselled to make themselves aware about the products and services of India Post so that they can motivate the customers to treat our products and services the best. Explaining the need of the hour, the Postmaster, Ashoknagar MDG urged upon all to adapt themselves with the transformation of India Post. The burden and responsibility of correct implementation of all the plans and programmes of the Department are now on the employees working at the grass root level who are directly interacting with the customers regularly. They are the real workforce to convince the aims and objectives of the Department when its functional activities are changing radically. During this National Postal Week, it is our collective responsibility to make our customer aware that  India Post has the potential to be a huge income centre and more importantly a force multiplier for the economy.  Everybody needs to understand that India Post has the potential to be the flyover that links India and Bharat. It has the potential to accelerate savings through financial inclusion. It is also the ideal one-stop shop for government services.  Need has come to give wide publicity about our premium products, POSB Schemes including Sukanya Samridhi Account , PLI / RPLI along with Prandhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti  Bina Yojanna, Pradhan Mantri Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana now instructed to be operated through CBS post offices. We have to make everybody understand that every initiative taken by  India Post will certainly drive employment, income generation and growth.

As opined by the Postmaster, Ashoknagar MDG. this herculean task will no doubt be harder for all of us in such a critical moment when we have not been fully conversant and well managed with Finacle CBS and McCamish and facing a lot troubles from dawn to dusk in rendering good customer services. But we can overcome the situation by our collective efforts using soft skills and managing/handling our customers more cautiously so that we can retain our goodwill intact. Our customers prefer a more effective, prompt and polite response from us. While we cannot bring instant solution to all our deficiencies,  we can convince our customers through our polite approach and positive body language. We have to remember that we are here in this Department for the customers only. So our interaction with them needs to be cautious always.
