GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAY OBSERVED IN ODISHA

Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch in association with  UNICEF and others observed Global Hand Washing Day today with involvement of   thousands of students from as many as 6000 schools across the state.

For the purpose, UNICEF has dispatched campaign materials to 6083 schools all over the state through Sahidnagar MDG, Bhubaneswar – 751 007 under Speed Post during the period from 14.10.2010 to 18.10.2010. The business involving earning of revenue for India Post amounting to Rs.359740/- was negotiated and materialized with UNICEF by   Com. Gadadhar Rath, our Assistant  Secretary who is now working as Business Executive and attached to Circle Office. The Comrades of Sahidnagar MDG worked continuously till late night in timely booking and dispatching the campaign materials for observing the Global Hand Washing Day.

Here in Bhubaneswar, the day was observed  at Govt. Boys’ High School, Unit – 1, Bhubaneswar  in the presence of Sj. Pratap Jena, Hon’ble Minister, School and Mass Education, Govt. of Odisha as Chief Guest. Hand washing practices were demonstrated by the guests, junior red cross volunteers and thousand of students including Mass Sensitization Rally  followed by cultural programme. Though this Divisional Secretary was invited, he could not attend the programme. However, the programme was attended by Com. G. Rath.

The contribution of India Post in timely   booking and dispatching the campaign materials for observing the Global Hand Washing Day with pomp and ceremony was widely appreciated by the organizers with assurance to come to the Department in future in all such occasions.

While we express our sincere gratitude to the organizers for their deep faith and confidence in the Department of Posts, we appreciate the efforts of our comrades in keeping the goodwill of the Department intact.
