THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Taking all of two months to supply a box of sweets from the city to a young girl in Lucknow last Deepavali has landed the Postal Department in a soup. Following an order by the State Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice J B Koshy, the department has paid the sendetr, an elderly lady residing in the city, a compensation of Rs 1,000.
The Commission had ordered the Postal Department to pay the compensation to Vedavati of Vallakkadavu, Thiruvananthapuram, who had send the Deepavali sweets by parcel to her granddaughter in Lucknow.
She had sent the parcel from the RMS, Thiruvananthapuram, on November 10, 2013. Her granddaughter got the parcel only on January 2, 2014!
She subsequently filed a complaint with the Commission and the latter had ordered the department to pay up. On its part, the Postal Department not only decided to pay the compensation, but also decided to get the amount reimbursed from the official who had failed to despatch the parcel on time, a Commission spokesperson said.
