Western Union and India Post extends their decade long relationship

India Post has over 80% of their locations in the remotest corners of India catering to a large unbanked population in India.
Western Union, a global leader in money transfer services and the Government of India’s Department of Post (India Post) have renewed their long standing relationship of over a decade for an additional three years.
With more than 7,000 India Post locations across urban and rural India offering Western Union Money TransferSM Services, the extension of the relationship will mean continued convenience along with reliability and speed for Indian families receiving monies sent by their loved ones living and working overseas.
India Post has over 80% of their locations in the remotest corners of India catering to a large unbanked population in India. India Post locations offering Western Union Money TransferSM Services have a greater balance in rural India – making it easier for families and loved ones to collect their remittances virtually down the street or in towns they live in.
“India Post is an integral part of the Western Union Agent network in India and our long tenured association has helped to improve and facilitate access to official channels for millions of Indian families relying on family support from loved ones working and living overseas”, said Mr. Kiran Shetty, Managing Director - India, Western Union
India Post is the world’s largest postal network with over 155,000 post offices; with a significant presence across rural India.  Western Union has over 450,000 Agent locations across 200 countries and territories*.
The continued relationship will only provide convenience to consumers in the remotest parts of India to receive money from their local Post offices with an even stronger brand association.
“On behalf of Western Union, a special salute goes out to the thousands of India Post employees that have facilitated millions of money transfers over the last decade.  The personal interaction with consumer and sharing their emotions of joys and happiness has created a strong bond between them”, Shetty added further.
“Trust is an elementary attribute for money matters and predominantly so when you transfer hard earned monies that ultimately goes to build families, communities and finally future generations of India.”
According to the recent World Bank report it is estimated that India received US$58 billion in remittances, making it the top remittance-receiving country in the world owing to the growing Indian Diaspora, strong investment opportunities in India and the growing needs/affluence of middle-class. Western Union helps families of the Indian diaspora back home receive international remittances in an easy, reliable and convenient manner through its nationwide network of more than 90,000 Agent locations.
