Jammu and Kashmir will host the first ever All India Postal Cricket Tournament from next week, the third consecutive national level postal sporting event.

"Department of Posts, Jammu and Kashmir is hosting the first ever All India Postal Cricket Tournament from October 21 to 15," Chief Post master General, Jammu and Kashmir, Chandra Prakash told reporters.

He said the five-day event will be inaugurated on October 21 at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium by Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-din.

A total of 13 teams, consisting of more than 220 players and officials including from the host state, will take part in the tournament, he said. Prakash said 19 matches will be played in the tournament at three designated grounds.

He said the department is committed to the welfare of its employees and to uplift sports in the country.

"Cricket is a very popular game in the state as well. The tournament will boost the morale of the local cricketers and give them wide exposure. It will increase the cricket fervour here," he said.

The event will also showcase the state as an excellent destination for sports and tourism, he said.
