VIJAYAWADA: The ‘Mee Seva’ services being rendered by
Department of Posts (India Post) are set to be expanded soon to include
bill collections at 29 Head Post Offices (HPO) in Vijayawada Region. At
present various certificates issued by the Revenue and other
departments, PAN and ration cards etc. are being provided through the
designated post offices in Guntur, Khammam, Krishna, Nellore, Prakasam,
West Godavari districts which fall in Vijayawada Region.
India
Post started extending Mee Seva on-line services in February after they
were implemented as a pilot project in 95 post offices across the
State, Assistant Director of Postal Services K. Ramesh told The Hindu.
The response from people has been encouraging and a total of 177 types
of services would be rendered including the ones being extended
currently.
Pack Post is another scheme that evoked
good response. Under the scheme, parcels weighing one to 20 kilos,
including a sizable quantity of pickles and medicines, are being
dispatched to 220 countries for charges ranging from Rs. 50 to Rs. 275.
This
facility called WorldNet Express was initially available only at the
Buckinghampet post office but it was later expanded to all HPO in the
region. A consignment to the USA is delivered in just three days
including the time taken for transporting them by road / rail to
Hyderabad from where they are flown. The charges are far less compared
to that of private couriers. India Post has recently partnered with
Deutsche Post World Net and the scheme has since been garnering larger
revenues and quality of service has improved a lot.
My
Stamp, a scheme under which customers can have their photos printed on
the stamps and use them as normal postage stamps is set for expansion
throughout the region in the months ahead. Only a few post offices are
offering this facility now due to logistical reasons.
