HYDERABAD, July 15, 2015
According to officials of the postal department, a total of 300 orders were placed from abroad. The collection and purification process is expected to go on till July 25.
India Post that had pledged to package and dispatch
bottled Godavari water during Pushkaralu days managed to collect 75,000
litres of the holy water just eight kilometres away from the stampede
spot. A team comprising Chief Postmaster General and other senior
officers of the department were present at the spot on the first day of
Godavari Pushkaralu.
The postal department staff said
that they carried on with the work even after the stampede and rescue
measures blocked roads. The collection and purification process is
expected to go on till July 25.
The department will
despatch 7.3 lakh bottles of the water to those who had already placed
orders online. The bottles that will be priced at Rs. 20 each will
contain 500 ml of water that the postal department has named, GOD-JAL,
after Godavari Jalam.
A total of 300 orders were
placed from overseas countries, officials stated on Tuesday. The
department’s target is to dispatch 7 lakh orders. “We exceeded the
target by 30,000 orders. About 5,000 orders were placed online while the
rest through post offices,” said B.V. Sudhakar, PMG of Andhra Pradesh
and Telangana Circle.
Mr. Sudhakar was present at
the Pushkaralu ghat which the department had renamed God Water Ghat
going by the name of their packed bottles.
A local
ISI certified water purification and bottling company Sapphire, a
Rajahmundry-based company, is in charge of making the water drinkable
through reverse osmosis. The water drawn from the river during the
period that extends from July 14 to July 25 will undergo an 18 stage
purification process that complies by Bureau of Indian Standards.
“Each
day we will pump out 75,000 litres of water for purification. All those
who placed orders will get the bottles in the coming weeks,” said Mr.
Sudhakar. The dispatch of bottles will be through 16,150 post offices
which fall under Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Circle. India post also
released the second of its special cover on Godavari Pushkaralu at
Rajamundry on Tuesday.
