THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Prem Nazir will be the lone Malayalam celebrity to figure in a new set of stamps, depicting 50 iconic personalities, to be released by India Post to commemmorate the centenary of Indian cinema.
Interestingly, while most of the other states can flaunt more than one celebrity on the stamps, Malayam has to be content with Prem Nazir. "He is the actor who holds the Guinness record for having acted in the lead role in the most number of films. The set of stamps includes a lot of most popular faces from across the country," said Shobha Koshy, Post Master General of Kerala.

The stamps will be made available in six sets of miniature sheets. "First two sheets consist of nine stamps each carrying pictures of Dadasaheb Phalke award winners. The other four sets will have eight pictures of famous film celebrities from various fields of cinema representing all the states in India," the official added. Each stamp will cost Rs 5. "However if anyone wishes to buy a stamp with the picture of Prem Nazir, he will have to buy the entire set. For instance if Nazir figures in the set with eight pictures, the entire sheet has to be bought. Single stamps won't be issued," said Shobha Koshy.

The list includes the names of singers, actors, directors and music composers who had earned national acclaim during their career. Ashok Kumar, B R Chopra, Bhupen Hazarika, Dev Anand, R D Burman,Shammi Kapoor and Smita Patil figure in the list. The release of the replica of these stamps was done by President Pranab Mukherjee in the first week of May. The officials of postal department are awaiting the first supply of stamps by June.
