03.05.2013 - Brazil's postal service, Correios, launched its new "Postal Service against AIDS" campaign this week.

A key feature of this campaign is the distance training of 117,000 Brazilian postal employees in HIV/AIDS prevention.
The courses, to be delivered by UNICO, Brazil's postal university,
will raise all staff members' awareness of this disease, enabling them
to inform customers, family and friends about how it is spread and how
it can be prevented. UNAIDS has helped develop the distance learning
programmes.
"This campaign meets the strategic objectives of a socially
responsible public enterprise like the Post," said Wagner Pinheiro de
Oliveira, chairman of the Brazilian Post, at a ceremony to launch the
campaign.
The public campaign targets three states where the rate of prevalence
is particularly high, Amazonas, Bahia and Rio Grande do Sul. Some 150
post offices are distributing posters, leaflets and postcards containing
information on HIV/AIDS prevention and measures to combat
discrimination against those infected with the virus.
"We have extended the campaign to Porto Alegre in the state of Rio
Grande do Sul, where the situation is worrying," said Pedro Chequer,
UNAIDS coordinator in Brazil. "Through the postal service, we will send
out letters urging the inhabitants of this region to protect themselves
against the disease, and encouraging them to be tested."
New website
Brazil Post has also launched a new website to
draw attention to the campaign and promote the prevention message. The
website provides detailed information and teaching materials on
HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
It is the second time the Brazilian Post conducts such a campaign,
supported by the ministry of health. It is also part of a wider global
initiative launched jointly in 2009 by the Universal Postal Union,
UNAIDS, the International Labour Organization and UNI Global Union.
