11.04.2016 - China announced a contribution of 100,000 USD to the UPU during a visit to the country by Director General Bishar A. Hussein.
Chinese authorities today pledged support for UPU initiatives ahead
of the Istanbul Congress later this year. Ma Junsheng, Director General
of the China State Post Bureau, said the country was supporting the
current initiative by the management of the International Bureau to
transform the Union to be more responsive and flexible for the benefit
of members.
Ma pledged a contribution of 100,000 USD and thanked UPU Director General Bishar A. Hussein for his visit to the country.
During his three-day visit to China, Hussein also held discussions
with Li Guohua, President of the China Post Group, and Huang Qifan,
Mayor of Chongqing, who also thanked the UPU for initiating the
Sino-Europe rail-post project. The initiative is meant to help China
transport e-commerce merchandise to Europe via rail.
Hussein also held discussions with Wan Lin, Vice President of
Cainiao, the logistics arm of Alibaba Group, on the importance of the
private sector participating in UPU activities. With the focus of the
Post being e-commerce, collaboration with the private sector would be of
great importance given the complementary roles of posts and private
e-commerce operators, said Hussein.
Wan said his organization would consider participating in suitable UPU activities and thanked Hussein for the invitation.
