Postal staff wins All-India Civil Services Chess contest

P. Maheswaran, postal assistant, Tiruvallur HPO, won the first prize in the individual event at the recently concluded All-India Civil Services Chess Tournament held at Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Silvassa.

Maheswaran represented the Central Civil Services Regional Sports Board (CCSRSB), Chennai.

Twenty nine teams participated and the CCSRSB team finished in fourth place. In the individual event, 150 players participated and Maheswaran won the individual chess championship scoring 8.5/9, said a release. He has also won the ‘Board Prize’ for best performance on the Second Board in the team event.
