Postinfo brings post office to mobile

ALLAHABAD: Now, one will not have to visit a post office to enquire about the status of their postal dispatches or interest accrued on investments in financial schemes. For the benefit of customers, the postal department has launched mobile app 'Postinfo' that would provide all information available on mobile screen.

The android based app is available free of cost.

The app also allows a customer to save information for future reference and share it with others through bluetooth, messaging apps, WhatsApp and facebook.

The tracking facility would help people trace the location of insured letter, value payable letter, registered packets, periodicals, insured parcel and electronic money order (e-MO) among others.

The users can view the status of their articles by entering the article number and pressing the track button. It will instantly display details of their article on real time basis.

Through the app, people would also be able to avail the facility of calculating interest accrued and total amount on their savings accounts. It would also provide information on various financial schemes launched by the department.

"The app can also help customers calculate postage price to be paid for all types of articles based on the weight entered by the user through a 'postage calculator' feature of the app. The unique feature of the app is that in a single query it shows chargeable tariff for all postal items," said senior superintendent of post.

Similarly premium calculator is another feature.
He further said, "The department is offering various types of life insurance policies. The users can check the premium payable for all eligible types of postal or rural postal life insurance policies on the basis of the input entered. Similarly, interest can be calculated on all small saving schemes, including Central government's ambitious scheme, 'Sukanya Samriddhi yojana', recurring deposits, time deposit, monthly income scheme, senior citizen savings scheme, national savings certificate and kisan vikas patra among a number of others."  Source : http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com
