“World Post Day” is celebrated on 9th October every year. India Post is also observing National Postal Week from 9th October to 14th October this year as per the following programme :-.
9.10.2011 — World Post Day.
10.10.2011 — Savings Bank Day-Arranging customers meets at Divisional level.
11.10.2011 — Mail Day-Visit of School children to P Os - Promotion of traditional mail products.
12.10.2011 — Philately Day-Philately workshop.
13.10.2011 — Business Development Day-Corporate customer meet.
14.10.2011 — Postal Life Insurance Day- Arranging melas in rural areas.
The purpose of celebrating World Post Day is to create broad awareness on the role of Dept. of Posts in people’s everyday lives and its contribution to social and economic development.
On the eve of World Post Day Mrs Devika Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, Orissa Circle, Bhubaneswar held a Press conference on 8.10.2011. Shri P.K.Bisoi, Postmaster General, Sambalpur Region, Shri Suvendu Swain, Director (Head Quarter) and Shri Lalitendu Pradhan, Director (Business Development & Technology Operation) were also present on the occasion. CPMG, Mrs Kumar highlighted the host of services available in Post Offices for the benefit of the customers.

1. Sale of gold coins, 2. Railway Passenger Reservation system, 3. World Net Express, 4. iMO, 5. Aadhaar enrollment under UIDAI scheme, 6. New Pension Scheme.
The Circle is effecting MGNREGS wage payments through Post Offices covering all districts. In technological development, the Circle is going to computerize all Departmental POs (1185) including 683 ‘C’ class sub Post Offices, during this financial year 2011-12.
Under Project Arrow “Look & Feel” of 17 POs will be upgraded.
In the near future Dept. of Posts is going to introduce core banking solution (CBS) in 35 Head Post offices of the Circle and preparatory work is on for early implementation of the scheme.
