Students get a chance to get their ideas 'stamped'

School students from around the city took part in the annual ‘On the spot design a stamp’ competition conducted by the Postal Department of India at several post offices across Chennai on Sunday.
The competition which is aimed at making the present generation aware of the postal system is being conducted across the country. The winning entry will be inducted among the stamps as ‘Children’s day commemorative stamp’, according to the organisers.
The competition in Chennai, however, was hampered by the incessant rains that lashed the city throughout Saturday night, rendering participants unable to make it to the competition venues. While the General Post Office saw only two participants, other post offices across the city, including the ones at Anna Salai and Tambaram recorded at least 10 participants.
The organisers informed that the entries from the competition will be sent to Delhi, where they will be evaluated, and the first three entries selected by a jury will be given prizes. The first prize winning entry will be made into a stamp.
