Machine Translation System Available for English to Eight Indian Languages
Shri Sachin Pilot, the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology informed Lok Sabha today in written reply to a question that the Government has launched the Indian Language Technology Proliferation and Deployment Centre (ILTP-DC). Under the ambit of Technology Development in Indian Language (TDIL) Programme, Indian Language Technology Proliferation and Deployment Centre (ILTP-DC) portal was launched on 12th November, 2010. The portal can be accessed through http://www.tdil-dc.in/.
The ILTP-DC is a single window access system to various linguistic resources and software tools for Indian Academic Researchers. This project is being executed through Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) Pune.
The function of ILTP-DC is to act as a repository of all the research work carried out under TDIL programme by premier research institutions in India in language technologies, so as to promote the R&D in language technologies by providing potential researchers with the necessary tools and resources.
As technology demonstrator the machine translation systems have been made available for English to eight Indian Languages pairs (English to Hindi, Urdu, Oriya, Bangla, Marathi, Tamil, Punjabi, Malyalam) and four Indian Language to Indian Language pairs (Hindi to Punjabi, Punjabi to Hindi, Telugu to Tamil, Urdu to Hindi). Besides this, 40 language software modules and 23 linguistic resources have also been uploaded. So far, portal has received 139397 unique visitors and total 4084 downloads have taken place.
